Easy Beat 2 - Lesson
EASY BEAT 2 - SLOW
Notes and Notation
Today's rhythm is based on a simple heartbeat pattern in 4/4. In this case, we are hitting the drum twice for a heartbeat, then waiting for two hits, then hitting again. So if you want to get the timing right, just imagine two beats in between, at the same exact pace for the ones we are hitting the drum.
I will do it for you on my lap in the video, and play the silent beats. Just watch for those, and say them in your mind, but don't hit them like I do.
Then I throw in one little extra beat, just for fun. Play it if you want to, or don't play it. But if you do play it, match my timing and stay consistent, whatever you do.
You can just say it to yourself if that helps (for most people it does)....
Bass Bass wait wait, Bass Bass wait wait....
For the notation hungry...
B B . . B B . .
Then we put the other hit in there and it sounds like...
Bass Bass wait Tone, Bass Bass wait Tone....
Notation would look like this, for all you freaks:
B B . T B B . T
If this is too easy for you, and you got it in 3 seconds, great! These next few will build on each other, so remember it. You can always add to a beat with an extra hit, but keep the timing and hits as they are, so you can follow as we build the next few lessons.
Today's Tip: How to Play a Tone
