Our Mission : Support Teachers of Percussion
Hi this is Robert Hensley, founder of Drum Your Way, our way of supporting masterful teachers and performers around the world, while also helping new students find their voice and get started. No matter how big we get, these goals will always be our north star.
Who is Robert Hensley?
I am an avid drummer, performer, and teacher myself, mainly djembe and cajon. I have always been drumming, first tapping on my crib (says my mom), then on my desk as a school kid, and later on my steering wheel on into my 40's. And then... tadaa! I was invited to a djembe drum circle in Iowa... and it was all over. Been playing ever since, into my mid 60's now, and I have learned a lot along the way.
Infinite ways to drum
Above all, I have learned that there are as many ways to drum, as there are people in the world. And that is why I decided to collect mind-blowing performances, discover new instruments, and find posts from teachers, to support your search for a beautiful drum or teacher, and to support the masterful rhythm makers that rock our stages and drum circles everywhere.
One drum is not enough
I started by teaching my own intro courses for beginning djembe drummers, called: "How to Rock It at Drum Circles". But I instantly felt it was not enough, and wanted to invite all the master teachers of all the instruments I have discovered. Now I am collecting and referring my visitors to courses for bongos, cajons, congas, pandeiros, darbukas, doholas, urdos.... an infinity of styles and instruments.
And the new DrumYourWay.com was born!
Now I am busy recruiting and helping performers everywhere by announcing their courses in their unique instruments, to keep all these traditions alive. I really want to support the amazing artists that need our support so much right now! And that is where you the student comes in.
Please support our amazing teachers
All of our teachers are out of work in these times. And even when they are working, some of our international superstars in places like Cuba only make $12 per month, yes PER MONTH, at their regular jobs, teaching and performing all day long. Could you live on that? Please help me support our teachers, and our future projects, by following our links to teachers and their schools. The more artists we support, the more new drummers we create, the more bliss there is in the world.
Let's all help each other and start to DRUM YOUR WAY!
