Benefits well explained for group drumming
Some of the benefits of group drumming go far beyond expectations, including immunity, happiness, and a sense of community.
Pandeiro has so much soul
The pandeiro might seem like such a simple instrument, but when played by a master, you can get a huge range of sounds and rhythmic elements with it. In this solo, Matthias shows some beautifully complex but intuitive and inspiring beats. I am amazed and impressed by all the subtle tonal variations he gets on the drum, using his fingers to apply varied pressure, like on a tabla. It's unusual and fun. Watch out, you might wanna learn pandeiro. Duh.
Shekeré variations in the hands of a master
Michael Pluznick having fun with 4 different, beautiful shekerés as his friend (and the one who made them all) plays a simple conga pattern to back him up. I love the variety of moves and the rhythmic variations that Michael puts down here. He is a 30-year master and teacher of lots of percussion instruments, and my go-to when I want to be inspired to learn more on shekeré.
Fara Tolno plays a djembekan (solo) in Boulder CO at the studio where we were recording the Rhythm Reference project.
The Incomparable Raquy
There just isn't another darbuka/doumbek player that does it like Raquy Danziger. Her long fingers are flying in complicated rhythms with profound clarity that I just don't see often, and she does it with a feminine flair added to her talent and blazing skill. To see what I mean, watch this creative rhythmic composition she is playing from her mentor...
