The Incomparable Raquy
There just isn't another darbuka/doumbek player that does it like Raquy Danziger. Her long fingers are flying in complicated rhythms with profound clarity that I just don't see often, and she does it with a feminine flair added to her talent and blazing skill. To see what I mean, watch this creative rhythmic composition she is playing from her mentor...
Raquy brings joyful energy into all of her playing, and her rhythmic memory and compositions are .... miraculous. I have seen her perform at the Seattle Rhythm Festival several times, and she never ceases to entertain and amaze, with her energy, and her long, memorized compositions, often playing in unison with other guest performers. I am always inspired to see her play, either in person or on video.
I found out she has an online school now too, and she specializes in teaching the newly popular "split-hand technique", playing far more than the dum tek ka on the right hand as well as the left. She has developed courses for all levels, beginning to very advanced, and does it all with that same flair and ease. She goes in depth in every lesson, so each lesson is worth watching again and again to absorb and practice it all.
